Crystal's high school success lead her to receive many offers of full athletic scholarships from NCAA Division I colleges and universities. It also exposed her to the rigors and pitfalls of the NCAA recruiting process. The journey to accepting a full scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin, (where she graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts), was a proving ground experience she still uses today to help other student athletes make their decisions about college athletics. Throughout her career at Texas, the Women's program was plagued with the instability of coaching changes. Instead of becoming a victim of circumstances beyond her control, she used the coaching changes to her benefit and became learned in the world of college recruiting, development of training programs and the diverse coaching philosophies while under the tutelage of several NCAA and Olympic coaches at Texas.  As a result, she achieved four NCAA All-American titles, 11 Southwest Conference titles in the sprints, participated on US national teams and ran on a World record winning 4x100 in the World University Games.
In her formative years, Braddock’s athletic talent was lovingly fostered and developed by the nationally acclaimed track coach, Bryan Westfield. To this very day, Coach Westfield's impact in lives of his athletes is incomparable. As a civil rights leader and advocate for women's equal opportunity in sports, Coach Westfield's influence was instrumental in Crystal's early success. As a member of his track and field dynasty, the " Ann Arbor Track Club and Ann Arbor Pioneer High School", in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was molded from elementary school into a high school state and national champion with titles and records in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relays and earned Track and Field News, USA Today All-American and Gatorade Circle Champion national prep rankings. Crystal credits the coaching philosophy she learned from Coach Westfield as her blueprint for creating On Your Mark Sports. "I wanted a way to thank God for this gift and also honor my Coach for the sacrifices and dedication he gives to the sport."-Coach Crystal Braddock
